faith, music and all sorts of other stuff

You don’t have mail

I have been here at Clovis Hills for a little over a year now.  I am reasonably acclimated to all of the processes and systems we have in place.  I am on top of my schedule (for the most part) and have even figured out balancing my schedule as I go back and forth between preparing for the coming week and looking ahead about 3-6 months.

The one thing I have not gotten on top of is my email.  I don’t sort, delete or respond very quickly.  I read an email and make a mental note that I have to respond and then forget because it has quickly been covered up by 47 other emails.

So today, I did it.  I cam in and deleted every thing.  I set up folders, followed up on old stuff, and empty my inbox.  I’d like to ask though, that no one send me an email as I don’t know how long this can possibly last.

Craziness and the itch to write

It has been so busy around here lately that I can hardly think!  Don’t get me wrong, there are some exciting things happening in my life, but it has all just been a bit overwhelming this week.

We kicked off our Saturday night service last week and it was awesome!  Great music, Dave Dravecky as a guest speaker (not too shabby) and the start of our church-wide growth group series, The Miracles of Jesus.  To top it off we have a ton of new volunteers coming in and tracking with all of them has proven difficult.  We’ve been auditioning like crazy, working on a ton of special music for this series and now I’m even starting on Christmas.

I’m not complaining!  This is all amazing and great to be a part of, but with all that’s going on at work, preparing for a two week trip to Africa in January, a wife who has been sick this week and Saturday night now looming every week, it’s a lot.

I’m really wishing I had some time to sit down and work out some of these song ideas that are swirling in my head.

Sometimes things are just going a hundred miles an hour.  Despite all of the craziness, it is pretty fantastic getting to be this busy doing what I love.  Sure beats workin’ at Chili’s!

ah, Homecoming

So last night, Jenn and I went to my high school’s homecoming with Micah and Erica.  I know, perhaps a bit lame, but it was a good time.  It reminded me of a story I saw, though, that I had to post here.  This is just stinkin’ awesome.  Maybe the best prank I’ve ever seen.

A New Day at Clovis Hills

This Saturday we are officially launching our Saturday night service!  With two services already on Sunday morning and now a third on Saturday night, you’d think that things would be crazy around here, but the exciting thing is that I’ve never seen our staff so excited and, for lack of a better word, happy.

Now, you have to realize, that Clovis Hills is a great place to work and people don’t walk around stressed or upset, but generally speaking, we’re all really nervous people and at any given time, one or more of our departments has something huge going on.  With the new service, we all do, but yesterday at our monthly staff lunch, we laughed and shared stories of what God is doing to prepare us for this new step in our church’s history.

It was so amazing to see people laugh and tell stories of how God has brought in close to 3 hundred new volunteers to meet the needs of the new service and how He is getting people out of the blue chairs and into serving here.  For my part, God is doing amazing things!  My wife and I lead a small group of young couples who have all responded to the challenge to lead their own growth groups!  Some of the guys from the band who are in another group I lead on Tuesday nights have responded to the challenge to go to Africa with 8 others from our church and in the last few months we have added 5 new musicians which means that this third service won’t kill our current band members.

It is definetly a new day here at Clovis Hills.  I can’t wait to see what happens next!

stereotyping in the news?

Kevin Everett is a tight end for the Buffalo Bills who, during week one of this season, suffered a horrible neck injury that until recently has left him paralyzed.  Good news is that Kevin has started to get some movement back in his arms and legs and so, a local news channel covered it.

Unfortunately, they picked the wrong time to mix up the tape!

Not all professional athletes are criminals guys!

If a tree falls at my house…

So the other day I was sitting on my couch enjoying a classic episode of ‘Reba,’ when I hear what sounded like a banging on the door. I thought Jenn was trying to get in but had her hands full and so being the loving and considerate husband that I am, I got up to open the door. Jenn wasn’t there. Instead, I opened the door to find this laying across my walkway.

Yeah, a friggin’ tree fell right in front of our apartment. As I was snapping this picture a neighbor suggested that I crawl underneath and he would take a picture and then swear that it fell on me. Since it could have meant I would never again have to pay rent, I thought about. In the end though, I decided it was probably best to walk away with a great story.

Seriously, how does a tree just fall over in front of my house?
